Bill Steinkellner: The Wikipedia Account of His Early Life

26 May

He didn’t know that he would like Broadway musicals so much.

He didn’t know that laughter would be like catnip to him.

He didn’t know that he would run into so many people who thought so much differently about the world than he did (and not in a good way).

He didn’t know there was no such thing as truth, even though everyone would act as if there was.

He didn’t know he would have abilities that many people don’t have (and that he would probably trade some of them if he could only slam-dunk once in awhile).

He didn’t know that half of him would be drawn to the spotlight, while the other half would rather just be at home on a rainy day reading a good book.

He didn’t know he would love words so much.

He didn’t know he would enjoy being a parent as much as he liked being a child.

He didn’t know CDs, DVDs, HDTV, the internet, and blogs on WordPress.com, because they wouldn’t be invented for decades (he did know black-and-white TV with rabbit-ears and Winky Dinks – they were pretty cool).

He didn’t know that life would go by so fast you could swear you went through a revolving door in the 1950’s and came out in a new millennium a few seconds later.

But Billy did know candy.  And he liked it.

The great rewards of age: the affection of children and grandchildren and the abilility to ruminate on the past. When you’re young, you just don’t have too much of a past!

That’s my life… without the Broadway musical and reading a book part.

This brought a tear to my eye. What a cute baby. Who is this again? (Just kidding….) As usual, brilliant!

Such a punim. I would give that little angel as much candy as he wanted. And pinch his cheeks.
