Romance: Unplugged

4 Oct

Remember when romance was two streams of smoke mingling together until one or the other faded away?

Remember the romance of carrying a girl’s books while walking backwards so you could still see her face as you spouted what surely had to be witticisms far funnier than Oscar Wilde on his best day.

Remember when all that your heart desired was that very first kiss? Time stood still till then and ever after.  And the distance between her lips and yours was far greater than Romeo’s leap to the balcony.

Remember when the most enticing sight in the world was seeing a girl in her sun dress after being bundled up all winter long in heavy coats and galoshes?

Remember boys chasing girls until they were both red in the face and then they’d fall to the ground gasping for breath as the world spun around them and the air was as sparkly as a fresh poured cream soda?

Me, too.

You are a true romantic Bill. I’m in awe of your ability to access experiences from
your youth and present them with the freshness of here & now, catapulting the
reader back to their own experiences. Love, Sioux
